An encounter which strokes ears and emotions simultaneously, Legacy Of Love provides a highly flavoursome and enthralling lure into the new album from British band The Sad Song Co. Their new single is the lead track from upcoming full-length in amber, a potent coaxing which alone you can only imagine stirring up plenty of attention.
The Sad Song Co. is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Nigel Powell, the founder/ex-member, producer and writer of Unbelievable Truth and currently drummer for Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls and Dive Dive. The band also involves Jason Moulster, also previously of Unbelievable Truth, and began around 2000 when Powell gathered up the songs he had written for the by then demised band for The Sad Song Co. 2003 saw the release of debut album miseryguts with its successor Poignant Device unveiled four years later. With his subsequent busy time with Dive Dive and in turn Frank Turner among other things, Powell’s solo work was eventually put on hold until 2015 when he began working on a collection of songs loosely based around stories of people in and around an old people’s home, now released as in amber.
Legacy Of Love is the initial teaser, a song which ambles into ears on a suggestive guitar spun melody. Swiftly joined by tempered rhythms and inspiring harmonies, the track quickly grips the imagination. An inescapable catchiness is just as eagerly pouring temptation upon the senses, ebbing and flowing across the different energies of the song but never losing its potency as poetic melodies and open enterprise seduce.
As powerfully enticing as it is straight off, the song only seems to find a richer flame to impress with through every listen; growing orchestral imagination and rousing vocals alone adding to the suggestive drama on offer. Legacy Of Love is pure captivation and if a sign of things to be discovered within in amber, The Sad Song Co. have a wave of acclaim coming their way.
