Bear Bone Company – Self Titled

We are always up for an artist letting their music do all the talking compared to others which spew suggestions of being the next best thing then bringing disappointment with a formula or uneventful sound, but there are some who go too far the other way and do themselves no favours by being as secretive about themselves as an orgy in a vicarage. One such band is Swedish rockers Bear Bone Company, an outfit with a sound which takes ears and body on an invigorating ride but keeps pretty much silent when it comes to self-promotion. With a stonking self-titled debut album recently unleashed via Sliptrick Records making a rich roar though things hopefully will become livelier for and with the band, a result the powerhouse of tenacious rock ‘n’ roll certainly deserves.

What we can tell you about Bear Bone Company is that they come from the Örebro area of their homeland, were formed in 2012, and now have a line-up of guitarist/vocalist B.K., bassist/backing vocalist J.Martin, and drummer Knauz. Their sound is a healthy blend of classic and modern heavy rock with spices of metal, and their first album is produced by Ronny Milianowicz (Dionysus, Sinergy, Saint Demon). More we cannot say but that is fine as the album is worthy of all the attention anyway.

bearbone-_RingMaster Review     It opens with Fade and instantly has ears entangled in a tasty groove within firmly probing rhythms. Bass and guitar only increase their individual lures as the song expands to embrace the impressive tones of B.K. and the rousing air of the song. As to be heard across the album, there is something familiar to the band’s sound, the likes of Theory Of A Deadman and Black Stone Cherry amongst a few brought to mind, yet as the song shows there is a fresh and rich edge which is distinctive Bear Bone Company, the outstanding Kiss N Tell swift confirmation. The second song enters on a grouchy rhythmic and spicily sonic stride, relaxing into a more recognisable prowl soon after whilst still retaining its initial irritated nature. The band crooned chorus offers additional Poison meets Velvet Revolver like revelry but it is the antagonistic side of the mighty song and its searing flames of guitar which stirs the imagination most.

Both the excellent Don’t Belong and the rigorously enticing Burkitt Lymphoma hold ears and attention tight, the first with a more controlled and even tempered hard rock character wrapped in fiery textures and enterprise and its successor through a steamy wash of guitar and again fearsome riffs. The latter though also slips into a more comfortable melodic prowess and catchy endeavour to keep its body unpredictable and fascinating. Once more major surprises are scarce but there is no escaping the sound is gripping and all Bear Bone Company.

The anthemic blaze of Down In Flames provides a stirring incitement next, B.K. as vocally strong and impressive as ever as the song stalks the senses and treats the ears with its bluesy intoxication whilst Bear Bone rocks like a predator in heat, grooves and riffs casting a primal rock ‘n’ roll swing as the bass venomously snarls. Both tracks hit the sweet spot before the predacious allure and presence of Way Back Home casts its sonic web over the imagination and by now a fully eager appetite for the release. Every track upon the album is in some ay a fire of anthemic tendencies, this one more of a smouldering pyre of enterprise which burns its way into the memory and a lingering appreciation.

Drinkin’ Time stomps with zeal loaded rock ‘n’ roll next, its easy presence not living up to what has come before yet still leaving satisfaction keen whilst Hangin’, another maybe promising more than delivering for personal tastes, strolls along with an infectious nature and accomplished body to easily please. Neither quite catches the imagination, though it again is just individual tastes involved, and both overshadowed by the emotive weight and call of Fallin’ Down. Its tangy grooves and persistent riffery is simply flavoursome bait alongside a similarly weighty lure of vocals, all spun around the potent rhythms of Knauz to strong success.

The final pair of songs upon the album add further tinder to its fire, Life’s About engagingly tangling classic rock and metal with soaring vocals and prowling rhythms whilst Suicide canters through ears with attitude soaking its intent and an inner fire fuelling its punk/heavy rock ‘n’ roll predation. It is a tremendous close to a rather potent and thoroughly agreeable encounter, an album easy to keep returning to and roaring along with to the neglect of others.

Hopefully the release and assumes success of the album will inspire Bear Bone Company to reveal more of themselves and even more so push their presence into the faces of potential fans as there are surely plenty of unaware heavy rock appetites waiting to be fired up by the Swedish trio.

Get Me Out is the debut single from UK rock band Underground Ocean and it is fair to say that the strong and seriously agreeable encounter sets a very potent base from which the band can spring forward from. It is an attention sparking introduction, not a song to set a fanfare ringing in the head, but one easily suggesting Underground Ocean are moving in the right direction to becoming a very viable rock success.

The Worcester quartet began early 2014, breeding their sound from inspirations ranging from Foo Fighters, The Police, and Manic Street Preachers to Stereophonics and Fleetwood Mac. The foursome of vocalist/rhythm guitarist Stuart McDonnell, lead guitarist Matt Beddoes, bassist George Parker, and drummer Lee Evans all come into the band with experiences of playing across the UK with various bands, Evans alone a part of outfits supporting the likes of L.A. Guns (Both), Ratt, Twisted Sister, Poison, Vince Neil, Bang Tango, Skid Row, Faster Pussycat, and Dirty Penny over the years. Experience is always a plus factor and you can feel that kind of knowledge and prowess soaking the new single, its creator’s learning of craft in the field so to speak, bringing as much to the maturity and rich songwriting fuelling the band’s sound and indeed Get Me Out, as the undoubted individual skill and invention of its members.

cover_RingMaster Review    Get Me Out emerges on a sonic lure, quickly unveiling a weave of melodic and rhythmic enterprise ready for the warm tones of McDonnell. With everything in place as the song hits a vibrant and punchy stride, a familiar air washes over the track yet it brings no distinct comparisons, just a general glaze of melody rich rock and quickly enjoyable endeavour. There is also real catchiness to the song which has feet tapping and voices involved in its easy going chorus, that infectiousness enhanced by the great shadowed feel of the bass which bring an opposing and a similarly rounded depth to the song as the vocals.

Recorded with Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden studios and originally released last December, the re-release of Get Me Out feels like it is in the right place at the right time to awaken greater awareness of Underground Ocean and their persistently engaging sound. The song does not have you sparking into rigorous declarations about the band just yet but ahead of their new single I See Through You in September and their first EP later this year, it inspires definite intrigue to hear more.

Up and coming Punk pop five-some ‘White Clouds & Gunfire’ are braced to stake their claim as one of the break through acts of the year with the release of their brand new video single ‘Poison’, out 22nd July. The single is taken from the band’s forthcoming album, ‘For All The Non Believers’, which drops this September.
White Clouds & Gunfire are rapidly making new friends and fans throughout the UK for their engaging amalgamation of Punk Pop which combines unbridled energy with copious monstrous hooks. The band’s debut album, ‘For All The Non Believers’ is packed with eight slabs of alluring spirited melodic rock and includes the spanking new single ‘Poison’.
Hailing from Peterborough and originally formed in 2009, the first eighteen months of the band’s life was hampered by changes in personnel. However, all of this shifted by the end of 2011, as the band solidified and soon began to prosper. Now with a steady ship consisting of Eveline Verdegaal on vocals, Rob Woods and Lewis Fountain respectively handling the bass and drums, Bryon Marr on guitar and new boy Alex Cox on second guitar, the five-some have started to make their mark. Support slots with everyone from We Are Fiction, Mallory Knox, Army Of Freshmen, Sonic Boom Six, OPM, MC Lars and The Hype Theory have followed, along with the release of their debut EP ‘Zero To Hero’, which was recorded at Regal House Studios (home to Deaf Havana and Young Guns). The record garnered extensive national praise and the likes of Rocksound and Big Cheese both handed the band widespread acclaim and support.
WC&GF are now poised for national exposure with the release of their new single ‘Poison’, taken from their stunning debut album ‘For All The Non Believers’. ‘Poison’ perfectly illustrates the band’s deft ability to dish up a delectable slice of modern rock marinated with killer hooks, ideally complimented by Marr and Cox’s layered guitar riffs. The energetic rocksters are also touring throughout the summer in support of the record and are primed to break by the end of 2013!

Love Stricken Demise: Psychotrip EP

Not many can turn their noses up at some dirty explosive and honest rock sounds, something you get with relish from US rockers Love Stricken Demise. Their debut EP Psychotrip is a wonderful insatiable bruise of rock n roll, colourful and insistent. Consisting of four songs which ignite an overspill of adrenaline, the release leaves one fully gratified and eager for more.

The background to the Texan quartet is as full and multi hued as their sounds. The band was started in 2011 by guitarist and vocalist Billy Blair, a musician who from fronting shock rock band Surgeon General in the early years of this century with whom he shared stages with bands such as KISS, Poison, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth and Cinderella, played bass for Earshot in 2008. The years in between also saw him in the likes of Mother Truckin Skull Diggers, White Collar Ghetto, and Messer. Over the past decade he ventured into acting appearing in films Mongolian Death Worm, Jonah Hex and Machete. With the intent to form a new band Blair turned to a drummer he worked with in the past in Rico (Mother Truckin Skull Diggers, White Collar Ghetto, Spearing Britney, EKG, Mind Gallery and KRADL).

Next the pair brought in vocalist Nikki McKibbin, a singer they had worked with previously. Her musical career saw her fronting groups like Downside, Rivithead and Mother Truckin Skulldiggers and most recently Wicked Attraction as well as releasing solo material, but a fame of a sorts came her way on the first season of American Idol and subsequent appearances on Fear Factor, Celebrity Rehab and Sober House,

The band was completed with the addition of bassist Holly Wood, a lady who apart from playing guitar for the past decade, switching to bass for Love Stricken Demise, is a master of ceremonies and hair stylist who not only preens the locks of Blair but has managed the hair of the Bush family. Arguably a larger than life canvas behind the band but no one should think of dismissing the quality and sincerity of their sounds.

Produced by Sterling Winfield the EP shows the strength and high level of the music immediately with the excellent title track. It is a song as infectious and hungry as a flea on a dog. Feisty riffs first stand tall barracking the ear before making room for the sharp melodic hooks of Blair. The rhythms of Rico are commanding and jab with an aggressive control to frame the song but it is the bass of Wood which ignites most adoration. Her sounds stalk and pace the track with a deep throaty growl like a wolf just waiting to pounce, her heavy presence making the perfect balance to the heated strokes and play on Blair. Once the vocals of McKibbin fire up the atmosphere everything is in place for the aural party, her delivery and voice impressively strong and varied, offering a snarl to the words and contempt to the heart of the track.

Celebrity High follows to keep the great start going. A track about and borne from the battle McKibbin herself had with drugs, alcohol and her subsequent recovery, the song is straight from the heart, its passion and emotion pouring through. The personal intensity makes for a potent and inciteful piece of muscular punk/hard rock and takes the song deep into thought and feelings.

This Life stirs and winds its way to attention with firstly sparking melodic guitar play and then a following addictive groove which wraps itself around an even deeper ravenous growl from Wood and sharper destructive power from Rico. The track is a tempered crawl though there is no restraint to its aggression and directness. A track born to soundtrack the most seductive pole dance possible, well certainly the music, the song is a teasing weave of contagion which lingers long after it burns its last flaming chord.

The release is completed by the stomping combative Love And Hate, the song storming across the senses with a barbed intent as it unleashes its passions and fiery breath. The track also powerfully shows a further expanse to the sound and creativity of the band. Love Stricken Demise here and throughout the EP, reminds of Boston punk metal band Mongrel, the voice of McKibbin very similar to that of Jessica Sierra which is wholly a good thing. Left on a real high by the track, the only moan is it is all over so soon immediately instigating an impatience for much more, and soon.

The Psychotrip EP is the best kind of rock n roll and Love Stricken Demise just what rock music needs, something on the cusp of being dangerous, fully inspiring, and brought with open honesty.
