With their first new slabs of muscle bound rock ‘n roll since the Two Worlds EP in 2013, UK quintet Patriot Rebel take another attention grabbing and impressive step to the fore of the British rock scene. Quite simply the Cynics Playground is a thumping collection of rousing incitements, a multi-flavoured EP that stirs up the spirit.

Formed in 2011, the Nottingham hard rockers have constantly honed their sound and lured greater focus the way of their ear pleasing creative roar. Drawing on inspirations ranging from Alter Bridge, Shinedown, Black Stone Cherry, and Avenged Sevenfold, Patriot Rebel poked at acclaiming attention with the aforementioned Matt Elliss (Black Spiders, Terrorvision, Skarlett Riot) produced Two Worlds. Live the band equally earned a potent reputation, taking in shows with the likes of Y&T, Tesseract, The Treatment, Jettblack, and Skarlett Riot along the way. Last year saw the release of the similarly striking video single Propaganda, a track taken from their first EP. Now with Ellis again at the helm, the band returns with Cynics Playground and a sound which has noticeably grown in maturity, power, and downright magnetism.

Led by the most irritably growling bassline to get an appetite for, the song is soon driving through ears with the riffs of guitarists Danny Marsh and Dave Gadd stirring the senses as vocalist Paul Smith roars. It is a thick and almost muggy assault with every element crisp and precise within the infectious tempest, throughout Marsh’s grooves entwining the imagination, binding the sinew swung beats of Aaron Grainger and the persistently grouchy tone of Will Kirk’s bass.

It is an outstanding start, with at times a whiff of System Of A Down to it, which leaves a lingering impression and pleasure before being matched in creative kind and potency by Self Hate. The second track similarly has ears and eagerness devouring its robust throes of riffs and rhythms, presenting another imposing yet inviting entrance which commands attention and enjoyment with swift success. Smith again stands magnetic within the boisterous energy and aggression offered, his delivery a fiery snarl with contagious prowess to match the virulent enterprise of the guitars and rhythms, which in turn means one stirring encounter.

Two songs in and the Patriot Rebel sound while never afraid to reveal some of its influences, shows itself to be at its most unique and individual yet, the emotive power balladry of Dying Breed continuing that welcome trend as it ebbs and flows with emotional and physical intensity amidst sonic invention. More a smouldering success than its predecessors, the track emerges as another highlight within Cynics Playground, being quickly equalled by the rhythm swinging, antagonistically riffed All I Wanted. It is a beast of a proposal, that irritability of bass in the opener fuelling every aspect of the mighty incitement. The song takes no prisoners, guitars and beats biting as they entice and land alongside the predatory nature of the bass which in turn courts the catchy lead of the vocals and the infection sharing instincts of the track itself. Equally though, there is room for some sonic and exotic melodic imagination to be seriously tempted by.

The EP closes with Miss-Guided, a song which reveals all the Patriot Rebel attributes with consummate ease while sharing the new depth and adventure in the band’s sound. Though it might not quite live up to those before it, the song is an impressing finale to a thrilling release. Cynics Playground is Patriot Rebel on a new plateau yet the feeling is that the band is still working towards their true creative heights; so happy days for UK rock ‘n’ roll ahead we suggest.

British alternative/hard rockers Patriot Rebel provide raw and rousing rock ‘n’ roll as virulent as it is ravenously aggressive. They proved it with their outstanding Two Worlds EP in 2013 and do so again with new single Propaganda. The song is a raw and explosive confrontation, an anthem to get fully involved in straight away but emerging even stronger and more impressive with every listen.

Though formed around 2007, it was arguably when the current line-up of vocalist Paul Smith, guitarists Danny Marsh and Dave Gadd, bassist Will Kirk, and drummer Aaron Grainger came together that the Nottingham hailing Patriot Rebel found the truly potent spark to their sound and in awakening eager attention. Inspired by the likes of Stone Temple Pilots, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, and Velvet Revolver, the quintet created a musical proposal which was soon invigorating ears and appetites, shows with bands such as Tesseract, Jettblack, Skarlett Riot, Cornerstone, Earthtone9, Spirytus and Violet over the years the live proof and Two Worlds the potent studio evidence. The Matt Elliss (Black Spiders, Terrorvision, Skarlett Riot) produced EP certainly drew acclaim and keen focus from old and new fans as well as the media upon its uncaging, which the band’s live presence has only driven on and now Propaganda can only kick into greater reaction again.

Patriot Rebel Cover Artwork_RingMaster Review     The single is taken from that earlier EP but manages to hold a fresh breath and character now standing alone as the band’s new protagonist. It is also a teaser of sorts for things to come, Patriot Rebel most likely in the studio, again with Ellis, as you read this. Sometimes tracks show a new light upon their depths and presence when taken away from an album or EP, and fair to say Propaganda, for whatever reason, manages to do the same as it roars from its opening second through to its last. From an initial sonic lure of a second of two, thumping rhythms prowl and riffs stalk the senses; their intimidation crouched over by the distinctive tones of Smith. The predatory start of the song and his croon subsequently triggers the embedded contagious might and stride of the encounter, grooves and melodies entangling in an irresistible tempting still graced by the formidable and throaty nature of bass and drums.

The song is a blaze of anthemic rock ‘n’ roll, luring the listener with its verse and leads into the irresistible chorus where full involvement from band and listener is a given. There are no truly major surprises within the song, the band’s influences open spices, yet it has a resourcefulness and enterprise which leaves expectations empty and enjoyment full to bursting.

Patriot Rebel continues to impress and though Propaganda is taken from their previous release it only thrills and ensures anticipation for the band’s next exploit will be greedy. Completed by a great acoustic version of Propaganda too, and accompanied by one equally enjoyable video, this is one single for new and old fans to spend a riotous summer with.

Falling Red – Empire Of The Damned

    There is something very familiar about Falling Red and their explosion of heavy metal soaked with dirty hard and sleaze rock fire, a fusion which wakes up the passions like a merger of Motley Crue with Black Veil Brides and Black Stone Cherry. That aspect though is only a positive in the hands of the UK band which picks up well-trodden and arguably exhausted existing enterprise and brings it back to life in an invigorating and thrilling contagious rampage distinct to themselves. New album Empire Of The Damned is a storming riot of addictive hooks and incendiary grooves thrust into the heart of high octane anthemic and hard hitting rock ‘n’ roll. There is an eager buzz around the band right now and the album shows exactly why.

     The Carlisle band formed in 2007 and has been stirring up audiences earning a strong reputation from almost day one with their renowned and incendiary live performances. Over the past years Falling Red has supported the likes of Sebastian Bach and Steel Panther, to strong acclaim, and sparked further attention with the Hasta La Victoria Siempre EP and 2010 debut album Shake The Faith. With successful headlining tours also under their belt the quartet of vocalist/guitarist Rozey, guitarist Jayde Starr, bassist Dann Marx, and drummer Dave Sanders set about creating and recording their Pledgemusic funded second album with Matt Elliss (The Black Spiders, The 1975), the mastering undertaken by Pete Maher (U2, Rolling Stones, Linkin Park) last year. Consisting of eleven insatiably ravenous and passionate encounters, the release is an anarchic and belligerent blaze of virulent rock infectiousness which easily ignites the senses and emotions.

     Opener Time To Rise is a short scene setter, a breeze of melodic guitar behind defiant words which raises its temperature and cult cover lrgintensity the further it declares its intent before a closing gentle coaxing makes way for the immediately antagonistic The Devil You Know. Punchy beats and energy charged riffs stalk and stroll through the ears whilst the vocals of Rozey hold a mischief to their fiery tempting. It is not a dramatically imposing and striking track but one which wakes an eager appetite for the album and gives a healthy indication of what is to come. Skilfully presented and fired up with an obvious passion, the song makes an infection clad access into the album.

    Its potent invitation is soon put in the shade by the outstanding We Escaped A Cult, the new video single from the band. A radiant drizzle of guitar elegance provides the first breath of the song with skittish percussive invention dancing around its luring as Rozey again picks up strong attention. Soon into its heavy stride the track stomps into the imagination with addiction forging grooves and again openly predacious rhythms but equally with a charm and devilry that leave the emotions alert and enthused to join the action. With a Manson-esque swagger and great anthemic group vocals equally as flirtatious with the passions, the contagion is a masterful and thrilling encounter.

    The groove driven Break Me takes little time in stealing its slice of the brewing fixation with the album, the sinew framed romp of taunting rhythms and toxically virulent riffery irresistible with the bass of Marx not for the last time having delicious rapacious savagery to its tone. That lure makes a similar call on the next up Outcast, Marx leading the song into another instantaneous and virulent temptation on the emotions. Shadow cloaked at the start evolving into a melodically flaming blaze of hungry rhythms and bold sonic causticity, the track then takes its allurement up multiple degrees with one of those salacious grooves which street corners were made for. It is a beast of a song with enticing of epidemic proportions as it makes a riotous rival for best song honours.

    The exciting stature of the album is continued with Disposable, a twisting and swerving hook driven song with more enjoyable toxic bait than a rat trap, and the title track, though the second of the two takes longer to make its full persuasion. From an accomplished and engaging slow start the song is soon flexing muscle and intensity with passionate melodic and vocal expression to feed intrigue and satisfaction. It does not make the swift union of other songs with emotions even though everything about it sweats craft and enterprise. As suggested given time the track does reveal a depth and strength which is hard to dismiss or avoid as it adds another strong aspect to the album’s impressive character.

     As The Defiled reminding We Are Reckless and the punk toned rocker No Sanctuary step forward with their irrepressible energy and adventure pleasure is kept at a high even if passions may be less intensively ignited, both nevertheless high octane provocations which still only invite eager attentiveness. The album is certainly stronger in its first two thirds than its last but as the scintillating predatory Lonely Way To Die with its acidic melodies and psyche infecting grooves shows there is still a bruising, exhilarating, and snarling proposition lying in wait to ignite the rioter in us all. Followed by the more predictable yet refreshingly digestible rocker Change For No One, Falling Red brings Empire of the Damned to a vigorous and imaginatively lustful close. The band may have been the rising storm on the radar of a great many but with their new album you can only see the awareness of the whole of the country’s rock ‘n’ roll community finding a greedy attraction towards their recognisable but still original tempestuous musical anarchy.

Patriot Rebel – Two Worlds

We have had a bit of a ‘crush’ on UK rockers Patriot Rebel ever since the band submitted a couple of tracks for our Bone Orchard show at Audioburger.com, songs receiving a persistent airing which is as much down to the greed of the listeners as much of the hosts. This meant anticipation for their debut release, the Two Worlds EP, was high and forcibly rewarded by a heavyweight riff clad storm of passionate breath-taking rock ‘n’ roll. The six track riot is bruising rock at its very best, a direct and virulently contagious confrontation which hits the target dead centre with flaring nostrils, menacingly flexing muscles, and a melodically crafted adventure fuelled by adrenaline.

The Nottingham has been breathing from around 2007 but it was with the coming together of current line-up of vocalist Paul Smith, guitarists Danny Marsh and Dave Gadd, bassist Will Kirk, and drummer Aaron Grainger in 2011 that the band began finding a potency and presence which really began commanding attention. Their sound is a tempestuous mix of alternative rock, grunge, and unpolluted rock ‘n’ roll thrust through the ear with a mountainous energy, drawing references to bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Alter Bridge, and Shinedown and even more predominantly Black Stone Cherry and Velvet Revolver. With the distinctive tones of Smith and an aggressive sound which is unfussy but concentrated in its craft and effect, their live performances are no strangers to acclaim with the band since forming giving the likes of Tesseract, Jettblack, Skarlett Riot, Cornerstone, Earthtone9, Spirytus, and Violet a tough act to share stages with whilst equally leaving festival crowds aware and eager for their presence. Recorded with producer Matt Elliss (Black Spiders, Terrorvision, Skarlett Riot), Two Worlds is the next Patriot Rebel strike on the country and one you can only see placing the band on the frontline of UK’ s rock scene.

The self-released EP opens up with the imposing Propaganda, sinew driven riffs and equally predatory rhythms consuming the Patriot Rebel Cover Artworkears with intimidation and intrigue as Smith offers the song’s croon. The bass of Kirk is especially rapacious in presence and voice within the encounter adding to the almost oppressive initial breath, an introduction which soon explodes into a fire of sonic infectiousness with the chorus. It is one of those moments where you ‘recognise’ the stranger, the song a previously unheard persuasion which hits like an old friend and enlists an instant companionship from your own voice and neck muscles. The track like the EP is not sculpting brand new adventures it is fair to say but as it firmly proves here it rewrites existing invention into something most bands would seduce your granny for. It is a potent powerful start immediately matched and exceeded as the release rampages.

What Goes Around makes a gentler entrance at first, certainly stripping less flesh from the senses anyway until it erupts into a brawl of hungry riffs and punchy rhythms ridden again by the magnetic vocals. Its rich bait takes little time in laying down its lures, the chorus like calls soon seducing the passions with another epidemic of rioting toxicity. Rippling with melodic persuasion which burns heatedly as the track intensely barracks the senses, the song is a ferocious charge of insatiable energy and skilled temptation designed to grip its recipients by the throat and launch them into a torrent of submissive participation, physically and emotionally.

The following Goodbye is an emotively lined slower track which seduces with an intense almost melancholic embrace, guitars weaving an imaginative and impacting web of enticement around the almost reserved delivery of Smith. The song instantly shows why the band has been spoken of in terms of the likes of Alter Bridge though as it burns brighter and increases its melodic flames and muscular presence, Patriot Rebel go somewhere which for our mind those bands have only flirted with. The song smoulders and sears the air the further into its compelling depths you go, bass and riffs a thick haunted wash of intensity alongside vocals drenched in emotional expression. It probably takes longer than others to make its full declaration but with focus emerges as one of the highlights of the release, amongst a few to be honest.

Both Come Of Age and Holding On are songs we know well from the show and each leaves the already raging appetite with another full meal to devour greedily. The first saws the ear’s cartilage from its first second, carnivorous riffs snarling whilst Smith draws a vocal breath and lets rip with a sonic wail to match the spirals of scorched design from the guitars. The track is a voracious torrent of energy and enterprise, a maze of ideas and enthralling invention veining its stormy mass of intensity and predation whilst again an irrepressible addictive enterprise casts its spell on the passions.  There is a muggy air to the track but it only adds to its weight and intent leaving the listener gasping for air whilst waiting for its successor. The second of the two multiplies the weight and depredation of its predecessor before expanding it into a melody fuelled blaze of hard rock meets heavy metal passion. It is a glorious anthem of sound and intent which resourcefully ignites and enslaves the emotions into their fullest ardour, a track which dares you not to be calling out its finale in a mutual vocal union, a challenge you only will lose.

The release ends with The Storm, a track which in the wake of the previous onslaughts feels at first almost pale in comparison that is until it too corrupts the senses with a dramatic and perfectly sculpted furnace of sonic endeavour and vital melodic invention. It is an absorbing encounter to close off an outstanding release. It maybe their introduction to most but Patriot Rebel has immediately thrust themselves into a vibrant spotlight with Two Worlds, and they can only get better with is simply a mouthwatering proposition.

Within just three short years, rising rockers ‘Falling Red’ have taken their high octane fist pumping brand of Rock from the backstreet clubs to the legendary Hammersmith Apollo! Now, with further fire in their bellies, Falling Red set loose their brand new video single ‘We Escaped A Cult’, which is taken from their forthcoming album ’Empire Of The Damned’. ‘We Escaped A Cult’ is already stirring up the senses as Empire Of The Damned’ lies in wait for its unleashing for public consumption on Monday 27th January 2014.
 
Formed in 2007 and hailing from Carlisle, Falling Red have already acquired a stellar name for themselves for their intoxicating blend of post-sleaze metal with just about every rock publication, from guitarist magazines through to national rock press such as Classic Rock, Rocksound, Metal Hammer have reviewed, interviewed or supported the band. However everything that the band has achieved has been born out of sheer hard work. The rampant rocksters  cut their teeth by playing just about every sweat-drenched flea pit from the highlands in Scotland to the pits of Southern England. After over three years of hard gigging, living out of a tour van and crashing on friend’s floors, the foursome are finally beginning to reap the rewards as word on the band is now spreading like wild fire. The band’s show have now increased in both venue size and numbers coming, as new fans are checking out the most talked about British band in years.
With a glowing reputation for exhilarating live shows the four-piece soon racked up invites to play both Hard Rock Hell & Hammerfest, the band duly obliged and left audiences with memorable high energy performances. Supports slots with Skid Row’s frontman Sebastian Bach, followed and Falling Red upped their game both on & offstage. Due to the their growing status the band were hand-picked as main support to the meteoric rising rock crew Steel Panther. Falling Red killed it again and left the stage every night to mass applause and with thousands of new fans wanting more. Falling Red toured again in March 2013 with a Headline tour which packed out 02 Academy2 venues. After another successful tour, the band bedded down and began to work on their follow up to their debut album ‘Shake The Faith’ (2010). Falling Red decided to utilise the Pledge Music platform for their sophomore album ‘Empire of the Damned’, it was launched on 4th March 2013 and reached its 100% funded target on 19th March, this is quite an achievement highlights the strength and loyalty of the band’s fans.
The album is now fully completed and has been recorded by Matt Elliss (The Black Spiders, The 1975) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Rolling Stones, Linkin Park,). ‘Empire of the Damned’ soars with high-energy melodies laced with dark aggressive undertones, the record is rammed with eleven potent cuts and is loaded to the nines with contagious hooks. Velvet Star: All Or Nothing

If All Or Nothing the new EP from UK rockers Velvet Star is like for us your first introduction to the band then hold tight for one high energy heart bursting ride of pure rock n roll. It is an adrenaline rush to leave one breathless and exhilarated. Whether the release offers anything openly new is arguable but it really does not matter when the songs making up the EP are so deeply satisfying and invigorating.

The quartet from Yorkshire began in 2007 with brothers Danny (vocals) and Corey(bass) Jones. The following years saw plenty of line-up changes as well as their well received debut album In The Face Of Vanity through Rocksector Records. Featuring on the cover CD of Classic Rock as well as playing across the UK alongside the likes of Faster Pussycat, The Treatment, Star Rats, GUN, and Vains of Jenna to name a few, has also marked the rise of the band to date, something the new release will surely take to greater places.

Spring of this year saw another change with the addition of guitarists Mewsy (Ex SilverJet) and Robbie G (Ex Slash Vegas) to the band alongside the brothers and drummer Ginna, as Velvet Star set in motion the beginning of All or Nothing. Recorded alongside Matt Elliss (Black Spiders), the EP finds the band returning bigger, mightier, and with an increased determination and passion, the songs themselves the open proof.

The release opens the riotous fun with Bring It On, a thumping attitude driven feast of snarling bass riffs and scything guitar strikes. An immediate bruising friend to take on all comers, the track has the pulse racing and militancy flaring from its combative energy and fiery melodic guitar streaks of sound. With muscles bulging and chest fully extended, the infectious rampage just ignites the passions in a storm of insatiable and rewarding pure rock n roll, something the very best releases always manage to do.

From such an impressive and triumphant start things actually get even better, the release finding elevated plateaus track after track. The following Crash & Burn is a greedy heavy footed gem, a blistering stomp sounding like a mix of Buckcherry, Dope, and Marilyn Mansion wrapped in a healthy piece of Trucker Diablo aggressive energy.  It has a slower swagger than the opener but a scorching groove which captivates the imagination with wanton ease. If listening to the time bomb of contagion your toes, feet, limbs, and heart are not in motion with its stroll… then call the paramedics, you may be at deaths door, such its irresistible lure.

It is hard to find any flaw with the songs or release, nor the inventive songwriting and skilled delivery, other than there is only four songs, greed taking over as the EP boils the senses persistently. Glad You’ve Gone is a great blues soaked slab of rock majesty, the over catchy chorus and magnificent guitar work from Mewsy and Robbie G manna from rock heaven whilst the vocals just glow and the rhythms seize and lift passions higher .

The closing Overrated without doubt takes top honours, the punk n roll rampage an unstoppable juggernaut of feisty intent and breathtaking energy. Impossibly infectious, the track takes full control of voice and body let alone passion as it refuses to leave until you are joining in with its unbridled enthusiasm and siren heart. Midway through a totally unexpected break into a quite quirky moment which one would expect from a Faith No More, bursts free. It appears from nowhere and departs just as simply but works wonderfully as the mischief of the band leaves a final wink.

All Or Nothing is simply brilliant and Velvet Star one of the great new pleasures for The RingMaster Review this year, make them one of yours too is our only advice.
