September 4th sees the second of three singles planned for the rest of 2020 released and in the shape of Tomorrows Promises another potent teaser for a future new album from Spunk Volcano & the Eruptions. The latest track sees the band once again cast punk rock instincts in a full and flavoursome rock contagion, one which unapologetically gets under the skin and draws out the instinctive roar within us all.
Three months back the UK punksters ignited the energy and fun of summer even in a world gripped by lockdown through Football in the Sun (Ossie Ardiles), a single which revelled in the growing variety of the band’s sound already evident within last year’s acclaimed album Double Bastard. With the same infectious intent Tomorrows Promises reveals its own individuality, the track embracing essences of rock ‘n’ roll and melodic rock to the quintet’s inimitable punk inspired sound.
Fun and sing-a-long incitement have always been a potent feature of Spunk Volcano’s songwriting and the band’s rebellious sound and Tomorrows Promises is no exception. Under the skin worming hooks similarly shape their tracks and straight away the guitars of Tom G Force and Scott Bones are teasing and coaxing as the new single instantly tempts ears, the bass of Joey Strange just as eager and skilled in its manipulation of attention. Together they cast an infectious swagger to the song’s stroll, the lively swings of Maff Fazzo bringing thick bait and crescendos of persuasion to our quickly animated bodies.
In the middle of it all, Spunk shares lyrical intimacy in thick reflection, thoughts and emotions we have all met and shared in our lives as again his writing taps into the different shades found in the joys and disappointments of life.
Together it all makes for a thoroughly addictive offering and the thought that ok we are still romping to the band’s last album with lusty energy but its successor just cannot come soon enough.
