Crashgate – Tear It Down

crashgate BAND IMAGE - LOW RES 260kb

The UK rock scene is a bubbling cauldron of predatory invention and ferocious enterprise right now, especially in the underground scene. Kent band Crashgate is one of the reasons and right to the fore of the bands picking up steam to seriously challenge and stand aside the big boys in the future. Further evidence of this comes with new single Tear It Down, a raucous and rousing slab of aggressive rock ‘n’ roll fusing metal fury to a melodic hard rock tempest.

An attention grabbing proposition from almost day one after forming in 2011, Crashgate has increasingly grown in sound and stature. From a feverishly supported local attraction, the Deal hailing quintet has inspired a national bred buzz around themselves thanks to an adrenaline fuelled live presence and equally impacting releases. 2012 saw the band’s first release, the B.O.B EP igniting a breath of greater interest but it was debut album Crude Jokes, Death Notes & Unicorns which pushed and confirmed Crashgate as one of Britain’s rising rock talents. 2014 was a highly successful year for the band which they now continue with Tear It Down, a track hailing from their first album. Ever insatiable live and working towards their second album, Crashgate are at that point where big spotlights are surely beckoning.

Tear It Down opens with big bulging beats which soon lure in just as hungry and feisty riffs. It is a powerful lead which is only reinforced as the impressive vocals of Craig Sheridan start to roar alongside the fiery enterprise of guitarists Brian Andrews and Toby Dorman, both also providing some bracing backing snarls and vocals. The song soon shows it has a melodic heart but within a body unafraid to threateningly growl and unleash a predacious assault, an intimidation driven by the heavy swipes of drummer Richard Keeler and the black hearted and alluring basslines of Shaun Roche.

The single continues to kick up a thrilling storm, hooks and twists as addictively persuasive as the main blazing thrust of the thoroughly compelling proposition. Tear It Down confirms British rock is in a very healthy state and thanks to bands like Crashgate and songs like itself, a voraciously exciting one too.

Tear It Down is available from March 2nd

Hope For Return – Get Your Gun

Hope for Return band pic 1

It is always important to make a strong first impression and that is certainly what UK alternative rockers Hope For Return do with their debut single Get Your Gun. A rousing and accomplished slice of melodic rock ‘n’ roll with a fire in its heart and aggressive tenacity to its personality, the track is a potent first national glimpse at a band already kicking up a storm of attention locally.

Formed in early 2013 and hailing from Dudley in The Black Country, Hope for Return bring a raucous dose of punk to their attention grabbing sound, and equally a web of hooks and voracious energy which goes towards, in the case of their single, creating a captivating proposition. Get Your Gun does not hold a sound which threatens to turn the UK rock scene on its head right now yet it has an attitude and invention which demands and receives attention. Originally a quartet, the band has regrouped after losing a guitarist and moved on as a trio, that obvious determination and passion to push their adrenaline fuelled music as evident in the single as the threesome’s individual prowess.

A spicy rub of guitar sets things in motion, its appetite awakening lure swiftly joined by a slim but flavoursome electro spicing aligned to impressive vocals. The punchy beats equally stir up attention, matched by dark basslines. Together they cast an excitable shuffle, an inviting frame within which the guitars subsequently blaze away with melodic expression and riotous exertions.

A reference to Kaiser Chiefs has been placed before the band, a comparison you can see though not as openly as you would maybe imagine, but there is definitely a familiar air to Get Your Gun. Ultimately though, the single creates its own personality and makes a thoroughly enjoyable and potential loaded entrance from Hope For Return. We eagerly await their next releases, which is said to include an album later this year.

Cléo – Pinball Machine

emmemm

A song which leaps through ears with all the energy and excitement of a carnival, Pinball Machine is one of those singles which simply gets under the skin. The new release from rock popper Cléo, the track with its tenacious punk like character and full on fun attitude is not necessarily a brand new adventure for the pop world but certainly makes for an enjoyable and captivating escapade.

Cléo is a Brazilian bred singer/songwriter/ actress/dancer who now resides in London. The list of inspirations on her creativity and music is long and includes the likes of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, No Doubt, Pat Benatar, Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Green Day, Foo Fighters, and Linkin Park. These are flavours at times openly colouring her shapely sound but equally, and certainly with Pinball Machine, Cléo has her own rich vein of distinctive creativity lighting up her music too. 2013 saw the release of the extremely well-received Unlucky Girl EP, an encounter converting more fans, media, and pre-assuming critics to the visually and aurally vibrant presence of Cléo. Now Pinball Machine is poised to stir up ears and attention once again and such its charismatic and mischievous enterprise, it is hard to imagine it luring a new rush of interest.

Cléo is the initial temptation in the single, her raucous call the spark to short choppy riffs, jabbing beats, and a thickly provocative bassline. It is a potent coaxing with a great almost predatory nature to it, an edge leading ears and appetite into the swiftly looming frisky chorus where harmony soaked vocals and melodies bounce with energetic eagerness.

As it continues to flirt with its more shadowy side as well as magnetic festivity there is that constant, almost Gwen Stefani like, familiarity to the song yet tempering that, Pinball Machine offers subtle twists of attitude and latent aggression which turns the offering into something personal and invitingly individual to Cléo. Quite simply Pinball Machine is a persistently alluring proposition from a lady we can expect to hear much more of in the future.
