Billy Momo – Drunktalk

10504829_10152139038749071_8577747195433505755_o

Following the acclaimed success of the single I’ve Got You, Swedish urban-folk collective Billy Momo unveil the title track of their upcoming second album Drunktalk. The band’s new song is a riveting and dramatically seductive embrace of folk intimacy and country ambience with a rhythmic and invention which is almost De Staat like in its imagination and Helldorado in its atmospheric ingenuity. Also seemingly drawing on the melodic richness of Broken Bells, the single is an engrossing treat to start off 2015 and simply ignites even greater anticipation for the band’s impending album.

Billy Momo is the brainchild of Tomas Juto and Oskar Hovell. Initially just the duo, the band swiftly drew potent attention and praise with the release of debut album Ordinary Men on Christmas Eve 2011 through their own Mobetter Music label, the record eventually getting a re-release via Hype Music in 2013 to greater success. The pair soon realised they needed to bring in 10881589_10152485803824071_4577033260872051476_nlike-minded musicians to take their music into the live arena with the addition of Tony Lind, Mårten Forssman, Oscar Harryson, Christopher Anderzon, and Andreas Prybil eventually completing the creative line-up which has already seduced their homeland and is working quietly but potently away on the UK scene thanks to the last single and live shows. Drunktalk is another inescapable temptation destined to light ears and appetites ready for the February release of its full-length namesake.

Drunktalk opens on a clunky ticking and heavy swipe of chains, a portentous almost industrial incitement which immediately teases the imagination before a winy twang of guitar and sultry vocal union cast their embrace on ears and attention. The startling and imposing presence of that opening ‘clang’ continues its baiting from within the brooding and provocatively melodic and expanding landscape draping the equally enthralling narrative. With strings adding broader and deeper shadows to the texture of the song and radiant harmonies aligned to evocative keys thickening its emotional drama and colour, Drunktalk provides an intoxication of senses and thoughts whilst creating a rich tapestry of vocal and musical expression.

The single is a temptation which lingers and worms into the psyche with increasing potency, building on the impressive presence of its predecessor but exploring a greater inventive aural theatre. Quite simply it is a glorious taster for an album which cannot come soon enough.

Drunktalk is available digitally via Hype Music from January 5th.

Unforseen Prophecy – Burn The Skies

promo_1

Opening up the 2015 with a reboot of their second EP Burn The Skies, UK metallers Unforseen Prophecy are seemingly poised to awaken a greedy spotlight on their rather flavoursome sound. The three track encounter, without quite managing to find a striking uniqueness, leaves ears hungry and satisfaction full as it brews up a raw and potent blend of inspirations from the likes of Devildriver, Lamb Of God, and Malefice with a Lacuna Coil like melody and harmony rich temptation. Burn The Skies does not quite set the heart racing it is fair to say but certainly it sparks an increasingly eager appetite to thoroughly explore the Kent quintet and their accomplished invention.

Formed in 2010, Unforseen Prophecy has earned a strong live reputation, taking in shows with the likes of Malefice, Exit Ten, Silent Descent, Beholder, Bull Riff Stampede, Evil Scarecrow, and Seven Deadly along the way. Equally their five track debut EP Without Consequence stirred up keen support and attention from its release in 2012 whilst last year saw the band win the Kent Metal 2 the Masses competition which led to a successful appearance at Bloodstock. Burn The Skies revealed upon its initial release a potent step forward in the band’s imaginative songwriting and resourceful sound and its nationwide unveiling this month has the potential to open the strongest awareness of the exciting band yet.

New single and the EPs title track opens up the encounter and instantly has ears ringing and anticipation aflame as a vocal roar from Paul Wells is matched in intensity and appeal by a cover_240stamping stride of angry riffs and threatening rhythms. Bound in an equally addictive grooving it is an empowering and thrilling entrance to Burn The Skies which dips slightly when it relaxes for the entrance of the alluring melodic voice of rhythm guitarist Charis Pattison, though Wells is still there challenging with his great abrasing tones. The song is soon back in control of senses and imagination as the excellent creative swings of drummer Russ Edwards are courted by thick enticements from the guitar of Aaron Jones and bass shadows provided by Paul Gills. The song continues to flirt and intimidate with anthemic persuasion and enthralling enterprise. As the EP, arguably the song is not offering anything strikingly new but for technical craft and untainted enjoyment it leaves no doubts.

The following groove laden stroll of The Placebo Effect keeps things on a high, though it takes a little longer to grip compared to the more instant success of its predecessor. Wells is soon raging across its stirring canvas of aggressive sound and resourcefulness, the guitars a busy harrying of ears whilst rhythms are as predacious as the grooves are virulent. Unrelenting in its examination and stalking of senses and thoughts, the track emerges as our favourite confrontation upon Burn The Skies though the opening melodic charm of Oblivion soon makes a seductive argument. With the vocals of Pattison ebbing in potency at times though, and the fury of the track missing the spark of the other two incitements upon the EP, the song pleases without raising the same excitement and ardour. Technically the song is as riveting and impressive as ever though, revealing more of the band’s tenacious and imaginative enterprise ensuring the release ends on a strong if not dramatic high.

Whether Burn The Skies will open up the doorway to the major awareness it is easy to feel the band is destined to walk through of course only time will tell but it does mark Unforeseen Prophecy down as a band UK metal will be eagerly embracing sooner rather than later.

The Burn The Skies EP is released nationwide on January 5th through all digital platforms.

Feral Sun Give Their Explosive Debut Album A Reboot In January

Feral Sun cover

Drawing from the inspirational powers of Stone Sour, Karnivool, Alter Bridge and Trivium, ‘Feral Sun’ are part of the new wave of hard-hitting British Rock bands that are poised to break in 2015. Armed with colossal riffs, soaring melodies and raw emotion, Feral Sun nationally re-release their debut album ‘Evacuate’ on Monday 26th January 2015 and will tour throughout the winter in support of the record.

Feral Sun were formed in London town in the summer of 2009 and feature Mick Burns (Vocals/Guitar), Jay Stephenson (Drums), Alex Nikitin (Bass) and Marco lo Coco (Lead Guitar). Soon after perfecting their live set, the band started to play throughout their local area and swiftly earned a hefty reputation by delivering a series of stunning live performances.

With the band’s live reputation thriving, the four piece decided to turn their attention to releasing their debut record. They proceeded to put down tracks for their debut album ‘Evacuate’ at Stakeout Studios (We Are the Ocean, You Me at Six, Reuben), and now “Evacuate” is finally granted a full national release. The band have previously dropped three singles from the record and they include “Long Road”, “Breathe” and the title track “Evacuate”, and all cuts picked up solid radio airplay throughout the UK and Europe. While the quartet’s sound is ripe for FM airwaves, there is so much more to this band. The layered depth of their debut album is evident as hammering drums and throbbing guitar lines, entwined with engaging hooks, masterfully weave their way around your ears. The foursome’s live show is also a rousing force as proven by their acclaimed support of the mighty SKINDRED last November. With further shows in the pipeline to support the record, everything is now falling into place as the Rocksters battle it out for their place as one of the new breed of Brit Rock bands set to break in 2015.

Despite Unleash Their Killer New Record To The UK This Month!

Despite Online Promo Shot

Euro Bruisers ‘Despite’ reboot their new EP ‘EPic’ on Monday 19th January 2015.

Ever since their formation, ‘Despite’ have destroyed stages throughout Europe with their face-melting concoction of modern metal laced with alluring dynamics and crushing riffs.

Although they draw from the likes of Slipknot and Soilwork to Strapping Young Lad, Despite etch their very own signature on the metal genre. Approaching their musical endeavours with nothing less than whole-hearted intent, Despite thrive on originality and ballsy groove.

Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden back in 1998 and featuring Peter Tuthill (Vocals), Timmy Leng (Guitar), André Gonzales (Guitar), Matte D (Bass) and Oscar Nilsson (Drums), all five members share an uninhibited and mutual infatuation for heavy music. The innovative riff beasts have built up a formidable reputation for themselves in their native land through hard gigging and with the releases of both their debut album, ‘In Your Despite’, and its follow up album, ‘Clenched’, which dropped in 2010. During the past few years the band have had switches in personnel, but the industrious five-some are now back, stronger than ever, and fiercely firing on all cylinders.

In 2013, Despite began work on their third record entitled “EPic”, which is finally released in the UK this January, and it’s a real belter. EPic starts off with the forceful hammer groove of their current single ‘As You Bleed’, which proves to absolutely ravage the ear drums. The quintet’s impressive riffery is on display throughout the record and the ferocious ‘Awakening’ is a prime example of the band’s sheer intensity and brimming guile. ‘Unexceptional’ is next up and offers the quartet’s trademark sound wrapped around the thoughtful use of an Indian Harp; this underlining accent highlights the band’s keen dynamism and cunning use of experimentation. ‘Give Me Life’ continues to hit you square between the eyes before ‘Sanctum Falls’ closes proceedings with its pounding rhythms and a full vocal assault that cascades into an engaging web of melody that will linger with you long after. EPic drops this January and the band will tour the UK later in 2015; stay tuned for more.

The Spanking New EP From A Room Swept White Hits The UK This January!

A Room Swept White Online Promo Shot

Southern Melodic Hardcorers ‘A Room Swept White’ unleash their jaw dropping new EP ‘No Love Lost’ on Monday 12th January 2015. Taking from the edginess and potency of While She Sleeps and The Ghost Inside, and by adding their own absorbing dynamics and alluring melodies, the quintet have produced a forceful fusion of Post-Hardcore.

A Room Swept White were originally born at the tail-end of 2011 in the South East of England. The fiery five-piece wanted to create a sound that inspires and attacks the senses, and they have certainly more than fulfilled their objective. With a keen ear for hearty riffs and pummelling hooks, A Room Swept White have etched out a sound that is hard-hitting, yet still inventive; and that’s no easy task given the present over-saturation within the metalcore genre. ARSW have sparked glowing comparisons to The Ghost Inside, The Amity Affliction and Of Mice & Men; and although they’ve pulled from their influences, they’ve still managed to create a sound uniquely their own.

The five-some hit the ground running on the live circuit, and after a series of sweat-drenched UK shows throughout the south, sharing stages with Heart In Hand, Hacktivist, Bury Tomorrow, Feed The Rhino, Bleed From Within, Soulfly, Demoraliser, Palm Reader, POLAR, Continents and Bleed From Within, and with recent performances at the Redfest and Guilfest festivals, the band’s stock is on the rise.

The band are now set to kick on even further with their latest offering and new record, ‘No Love Lost’. The EP takes shape with the brooding and poignantly phrased ‘Recollection’. However, ‘This Life’ soon turns up the velocity with its breakneck riffage and full vocal assault. The record’s namesake and new single ‘No Love Lost’ twists and contorts itself around your ears to pleasing effect, while ‘Time Heals’ is additional evidence that these Southern metalcorers really have something different to offer. Lastly, ‘Better Days’ showcases the band’s growing stature and utilises dynamics to stunning effect. With five potent cuts, the EP is sure to thrust the band to the vanguard of the UK scene.
