The BeauBowBelles – All Over That

Having been lustfully seduced by the To The Moon EP, the debut release from UK band The BeauBowBelles which uniquely merged the richest essences of gypsy punk, folk, country rock, swing, with a classical elegance, we had an instant lick of the lips when presented with their new single All Over That. It did not let anticipation and expectations down either, from a deceptively slow beginning evolving into another stylishly mischievous and imaginatively flirtatious stomp. The London quartet has a sound which makes the common cold look lightweight in contagiousness and their new single is the band’s most virulent dose of melodic infection yet.

The foursome of multi- instrumentalists, Bertie Anderson (vocals, violin), Emma Price (vocals, flutes, accordion, bells), Ros Wilks (vocals, violin, keytar), and Marcus Daborn (guitar, kickdrum), has continued to breed an impressive reputation and acclaimed proposition live since making their entrance. Along with their previous EP, it has been an exciting emergence by The BeauBowBelles, a potent ascent now receiving a sizeable change of gear through All Over That.

A melancholic embrace of violin wraps ears first, a caress accompanied in no time by a smouldering kiss of brass and an emotive breath of keys. It is an invitingly shadowed and emotionally dark wash which finds a sultry light as horns proceed to flirt with guitar crafted melodies and the first kiss of vocals. The lyrics state at one point a “tantalising tune” and it nicely sums up the opening of the song, an intrigue and unpredictability which truly erupts as guitars and voices add urgency to their croon. It is a momentary loss of restraint though which teases wonderfully before the track slips back into its darkened gypsy waltz to sculpt and cast the same magnetic build-up again.

Eventually rhythms and bass strums get heavy with a passionate relish, dancing with the sweltering melodies as the song develops a seriously irresistible swing to its melodically erotic romp. It is not long into the song that feet and imagination, not forgetting emotions, are wrapped up in the track’s adventure and by its climax all are swirling with the whirling fever of a dervish in breathless bliss.

All Over That is an unbridled joy and devilish epidemic of enterprise, as infectious as it is poetically melodic. The BeauBowBelles are the masters of the dance, for body and soul.

Dirty Dishes – Thank You Come Again

A smouldering seduction of fiery sonic tenacity and vocal charm, US band Dirty Dishes has been a gripping proposition for quite a while through their attention grabbing releases and senses scorching sound but the band have laid down their most potent and thrilling marker with new single Thank You Come Again. Entwining grunge, punk, and noise rock in one raw and spellbinding wash, the band’s new release ignites an instinctive hunger in ears and emotions with consummate ease and skill.

Hailing out of Boston, Massachusetts, the now Los Angeles based band is the brain child of Jenny Tuite (guitar/vocals) and Alex Molini (synth/bass), the pair initially meeting at a party before subsequently uniting their creative craft and vision in the feisty shape of Dirty Dishes. It took little time for the pair to spark eager attention and appetites for their sound and presence, the band going on to play over the years with the likes of Passion Pit, Autolux, Speedy Ortiz, Trail of Dead, Best Coast, and Weezer. Both their self-titled EP of 2010 and the following The Most Tarnished Birds EP two years later drew acclaim but it is easy to suggest their contents were mere appetisers for the deepest inventive majesty of the band to be discovered, starting with Thank You Come Again. The single is a new twist in the noisy invention of the band, a loftier peak of contagious yet uncompromising sonic devilry which is quite scintillating.

A swift and brief blaze of guitar bred noise opens up the gates for a heavier breath of sonic intensity to escape the song, before it relaxes into a gentle caress of excellent vocal temptation from Tuite. Her voice mesmerises from the first note, its beauty courted by a dulled bass tone and jabbing beats before the returning caustic flame of energy and sound returns to ignite the senses. The song continues to revolve and merge both aspects of its raucous and transfixing beauty, the track enslaving thoughts like a mix of The Pixies, Sonic Youth, and Belly.

     Thank You Come Again is a sensational sweet abrasion on ears, a rigorous examination which flirts poetically whilst searing the senses. An introduction for some to Dirty Dishes and a continuation for others of their already impressive presence, the single is a gripping next step in the rise of a band destined to breach a global spotlight.

Kosoti – Bark and Sticks

Though it does not exactly light a fire in the passions, the new single from UK band Kosoti certainly makes a highly flavoursome and satisfying appetiser for things to come. Bark and Sticks is an intriguing festival of healthy emotion and strong engaging sounds, a track which lingers long after its departure and incites a keen appetite for the band ahead. As mentioned it does not set the heart ablaze but easily reinforces the Newcastle sextet as a thoroughly tantalising proposition.

The seeds of the band, and certainly its impassioned sound, seems to have come from a near death experience in 2013 for vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Allan Hyslop, the press release for the single stating that he ‘realised that he should treasure every moment of his life doing what he loved, MUSIC!’. That emotion and emotional intensity is a rich soak to Bark and Sticks, and a band which from forming last year was soon impressing through the double A-sided single War/Pirouettes and soon after the Cradle EP. With a settled line-up of guitarist Seth Tinsley, bassist Christos Worsley, drummer George Hutton, vocalist Rebecca Gregson, and Paul Holdsworth on banjo alongside Hyslop, Kosoti has PromoImageevolved new twists to their sound and drive to their creative flame. Bark and Sticks is the evidence, a song which may not set the world alight but definitely gives it a warm enticing glow in anticipation of greater things from the band with its enterprising mix of folk and pop rock adventure.

A guitar caress and charming harmonies open up the song before a pulsating bassline alongside melodic enticement, wraps the ear as the warm grainy tones of Hyslop begins the song’s home town inspired narrative. It is a resourceful invitation which is soon revelling in an eager shuffle shaped by a great fusion between acoustic and electric guitar, which in turn is courted by the bubbling energy of the banjo. Vocally there is a reflective intimacy which equally shines thanks to the hazy voice of Hyslop and Gregson’s outstanding and varied vocal seducing.

Quick footed yet perfectly restrained to pull the listener physically and emotionally into its embrace, Bark and Sticks is only missing that final spark to turn impressed admiration into lustful enthusiasm. The track though shows that the potential is there and well within the band’s ability to grab even greater success over their incoming horizons.

Machine Rox began as the solo project of musician/songwriter Richard K, ignited by his rich experiences and adventures from being part of industrial metallers Meat Machine and Global Noise Attack, with whom he shared stages with the likes of Rammstein, Napalm Death, and Covenant. The project grew with the addition of band member Aga in 2010, her unique backing vocals and keyboard seduction adding a new potency which took the well-received strengths of the band’s first two EPs to new commanding heights with the “Driven” EP. The recruitment of guitarist Valerian Oproiu and drummer Nuj Farrow in 2012 saw the quartet concentrating on lighting up the live arena, which they did to wide acclaim and with accomplished delivery through festival appearances and national shows. 2013 became Machine Rox’s strongest and most successful year to date as the foursome signed to Static Distortion Records and unleashed the voraciously received EP “Activate Your Anger ” and debut album “Shout”. With the recent “Intox” EP, a new toxicity rose to the surface of the band’s ever evolving and refining sound. Now with the band’s sophomore album “Next Level”, which is unveiled this September, the quartet have crafted a colossal record that is poised to break the mould. From the engaging synth work and anthemic pounding guile of the new video single ‘Lost My Mind, to the texturing and progressive groovage of ‘Illusion’, through to the hard-hitting beatings of ‘You Belong To Me’, this is a record that should not be overlooked.
